New JESLA roles – call for expression of interest

Call out for two new roles to support JESLA, the Journal of the European Second Language Association, deadline 5pm BST, Friday 10th October 2025. Please share this call across your networks – note, current EuroSLA membership is not required to serve in these roles.

JESLA, the Journal of the European Second Language Associationis seeking two enthusiastic people to join the editorial team as we expand our operations to celebrate JESLA’s 10th anniversary in 2026. If you are interested in the publishing process and would like to join us, then read on.

  1. Assistant Editor.

This is a great opportunity, open to scholars within the field of SLA / Applied Linguistics, at any point in their career, from Postdocs to Emeritus Professors. The primary duty is copyediting, so a keen eye for detail is required. As such, applicants will be asked to complete a short proofing task to evaluate proof-reading and copyediting skills. The position is voluntary and part-time; mentoring and training will be provided​, along with a EuroSLA conference fee waiver (including membership of EuroSLA).

  1. Marketing Assistant.

This is a one-year opportunity for a motivated marketing and communications assistant to join our team from November 2025 to December 2026, to raise awareness and readership of the Journal in celebration of our 10th anniversary in 2026.

You will help with:

    • Promoting JESLA worldwide through digital marketing activity on social media and other appropriate platforms
    • Supporting Journal editorial team in tracking citations, readership and engagement
    • Assisting the Journal editorial team with communications as needed for maintaining speedy article production processes

The post is open to scholars at any stage of their career: we are looking for someone with some knowledge of current digital marketing techniques, with good English reading and writing skills, who is organised and enjoys working with others.

As for the Assistant Editor post, the role is voluntary and part-time; guidance and support will be offered, and a EuroSLA conference fee waiver (including membership of EuroSLA), for either 2026 or 2027.
