Vivian Cook: Academic memorial service

Posted on behalf of Bene Bassetti (Literary Executor for Vivian Cook) and Adam Brandt (Head of Applied Linguistics & Communication, Newcastle University)

Dear all,

As you will all know by now, our dear friend and colleague Vivian Cook passed away at end of last year. Following this, many people across the world have expressed a wish to come together as an academic community to mourn this huge loss, and to share our memories of Vivian.

An academic memorial service will be held for Vivian on Friday 27 May. It will be hosted by Newcastle University, and colleagues are welcome to join in person on campus (13.30-16.00 approx.) or remotely online (14.00-15.00 BST).

Colleagues are asked to confirm their attendance by registering through EventBrite at the below link: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/vivian-cooks-academic-memorial-service-tickets-321310748097

Those who wish to join in person are asked to confirm their attendance no later than Monday 9 May, for catering and room booking purposes.

Those who wish to attend online will receive the Zoom link upon registration through EventBrite.

We are putting together a collection of pictures of Vivian, with Vivian, and about Vivian (e.g., a picture of Crocs, or of Vivian in his garden), to make a short video to play on the day. If you would like to share one or more pictures, please email it to TESOL@newcastle.ac.uk with a very short legend to accompany it in the video.

We look forward to coming together as an academic community to remember Vivian.
